Anna Laura Schiavi (b.1999, Piacenza, Italy) is a visual artist and photographer based in London. Her practice explores image-making as a material and physical process. Working across analogue photography, moving image, artist books and archival material, Anna Laura investigates how images emerge through experimentation, transformation and the interaction between materials, time and place.
Experimentation is central to her approach. Through repeated testing, observation and material processes, Anna Laura works with light, chemistry, water, organic matter and photographic surfaces, allowing movement, chemical reactions and chance to influence the direction of the work. Rather than treating materials as passive tools, she is interested in how they actively participate in the formation of the image.
Whether working with photography, film or installation, Anna Laura approaches each project as an exploration of process, where the relationship between intention, material and unpredictability becomes as important as the final outcome.
